A few weeks ago our family set out for our annual family photo session. I make it a priority to get at least one great photo of us once a year. Everyone hates it and I end up bribing my children {and husband} to agree to this. But it is a non-negotiable for me or else I would probably have zero photos of me with my kids. The whole process is made much, much easier because I LOVE our photographer. I can’t imagine going through a family photo shoot only to not love your photos or jive with the person your working with.
So here are my three tips for picking a family photographer!
When Picking a Family Photographer, Do Your Research!
This may be a no brainer but there are a lot of family photographers on the Seacoast out there! Take some time reading reviews, asking friends, and checking out websites. We have a great Directory of Seacoast Photographers right here on Seacoast Moms! Most the time you can gather quite a bit of information and get most of your questions answered this way. We found our family photographer through the recommendation of a friend. If you love someone else’s family photos, ask them who they used.
A few more things to think about:
Does the photographer have a certain place they take the photos?
Will the photographer travel to a location for you?
How communicative are they during your research process? Are they quick to respond to calls or emails?
Style of photos
Once you have a few names, go check out their website or social media page. This is where you can take a look at their photos and get some more info. We all have a vision of the photos we want framed and hanging in our house, checking out what type of photos a photographer takes can be a helpful way to see if your visions align. Do you like more posed photos? More lifestyle photos? Are you picturing photos outside in natural light or something in a studio? By taking a look at the actual work they do will help in choosing your photographer.
Price point
Last but certainly not least, how much is all of this going to cost? Price is the last thing you want to be thinking about while your dragging your family to a photo shoot. The process of choosing a photographer has to include researching cost. Inquire about the different options and price points they have. That way before you book you know exactly what you’re getting with your session and how much it will cost. A lot of photographers also offer mini sessions which are much more affordable and can be perfect if you only want a few photos or a picture of the family for a holiday card.
