Summer’s Here: Enter Sundresses
The warmest, sunniest days are upon us! What are you all wearing this summer? A fellow contributor shared 5 summer outfit ideas here! Personally, I could live in sandals and a sundress #alldayeveryday which is why this month I’m revealing how to style a slip this summer. Slips are my dresses best friend but you wouldn’t even know it (shhh).
Why You Need to Wear a Slip this Summer
The kids and I went for ice cream ? the other day at Stillwells. As we sat outside, the cutest girl walked by in a lovely sundress. However, as she walked past, what was cute and lovely seconds ago, quickly morphed to… A see-through dress, a wrinkled mess and sweat marks in the shape of a “?” I felt so bad for her ? My first thought was, “That girl needs a slip.” Second thought, “Does she even know what one is!”
Warm Weather Dresses
Many warm-weather dresses (slip-dresses, maxis, sundresses etc.) are designed with the intention of being light as air, swingy and flowing. In fact, slip-skirts are back in fashion. See how I styled two Cotillion Bureau vintage slip-skirts. Unfortunately, the fabrics that offer those qualities are often thin and unintentionally clingy, revealing the lines and bumps we’d rather keep covered. I’ve seen poor reviews given to wonderful dresses stating those exact problems. Understandable, as some lycra/spandex blends are just bad math by accident: Thin and stretchy + gravity = hugging too close to our body. Add perspiration to that mix and not a good look. Shapewear solves part of the problem. But who wants to wear THAT in hot summer? Wearing a slip this summer is definitely a comfortable, cooler choice.
Slip Choices

Synthetic and lycra blend slips work very well. They are smooth and quite affordable with numerous styles and lengths. Cotton and silk (and blends) are my favorite. The silk/silk blends are obviously higher in price, but is one of those investment items that I discussed in my blog about buying higher quality, longer lasting pieces. I love the Faye Slip from CP Shades. They are offered online and in-store at Bliss Boutique in Portsmouth, NH and Portland, ME. These are not your grandmother’s slips!
Final Credits
A slip gives polish to your entire look. It allows your clothing to hang smoothly and move freely. It gives the right amount of opacity, eliminating the see-through factor. And it’s a defense against wrinkles and perspiration. Click here to see my slip suggestions ?
