Eliot, Maine has a beautiful small town feel. With homes on many acres, working farms and stunning waterfront properties for avid boaters, there’s a lot here. With a public boat launch and park, Eliot tends to draw water enthusiasts in addition to those looking for the Seacoast life — but with some breathing room and privacy. Home prices vary due to the diversity of neighborhood options.
Why Moms Love Eliot
Close to downtown Portsmouth and bustling Kittery, Eliot has the conveniences of the larger bustling neighboring city but quiet lifestyle for low key living. The views of the Piscataqua are stunning and people enjoy the space and local farms. With easy access to I-95, it’s a great place for anyone with a commute.

Playgrounds, Parks & Attractions
There is a public boat launch with playground and picnic tables, various walking trails, public tennis courts with playground and dog park. Take a look at the facilities page to see some of the options! Plus, you have all the local attractions of Kittery (just next door) and Portsmouth (across the bridge).
One of the best things about Eliot (and so much of the Seacoast) is that you can easily get to incredible outdoor destinations. Here are some of our favorite places:
- NH Lakes Region
- Acadia National Park
- Baxter State Park for outdoor enthusiasts!
Childcare & Schools
Eliot has a ton of childcare options from which to choose. From traditional learning centers, like Busy Bees and Leaps and Bounds, to the Seacoast Waldorf School (preschool through 8th grade), much is available. There are other local preschools available in surrounding towns, depending on the philosophy that most appeals to your family.
Eliot is a part of MSAD #35 in York County. Young students in Eliot attend Eliot Elementary School from Kindergarten through 3rd grade. For 4th and 5th, they move onto Great Works School with students from the neighboring town of South Berwick. 6th-8th graders attend Marshwood Middle School and finally, it’s onto Marshwood High School, where the average student:teacher ratio is 13:1.
Shops & Restaurants
Truly, there’s not a significant amount of commerce in Eliot, which is one of the reason its residents are so happy! Live in peace and quiet and drive a short distance to hubbub! It’s the best of all worlds.
That being said, there are a few gems like the Great Cove Boat Club as gorgeous views and boating are serious perks of living in Eliot.
Activities
There’s much to do outside in Eliot but the library is always a great option for indoors. The William Fogg Library is beloved for its many offerings like story time and monthly movies.
Eliot is a wonderful place to live. You can enjoy the quiet where you rest but have so many options for activity just around the corner.
