Deerfield Fair (Deerfield) :: October 1-2, 8am – 7pm

The 140th Deerfield Fair is coming to town! New Hampshire’s Oldest “Family Fair” is a living tribute to the state’s rural and farming heritage and a tradition for generations of families. Entertainment, 4-H exhibits, strolling performers, magic shows, pig scrambles, horse shows, demolition derby, the crowning of Miss Deerfield Fair and Little Miss Deerfield Fair, and lots more. Great rides and delicious fair food, too!

The Contradictory Life of Candy the Dentist at the Seacoast Repertory Theater (Portsmouth) :: October 1, 2, 8, 9

This is the hilarious story of Candy, a dentist who is hiding a big secret, presented by he Portsmouth Academy of Performing Arts. Come enjoy this wonderful musical with your family!

Transit Day at the Seashore Trolley Museum (Kennebunkport, ME) :: October 8, 10am – 5pm

The Seashore Trolley Museum is a museum of mass transit! Their collection includes interurbans, rapid transit cars, buses, trackless trolleys, work equipment, and freight equipment as well as streetcars. On Transit Day, they feature rapid transit cars, buses, and trackless trolleys, which don’t run on “regular” operating days.

Public Flashlight Nite Maze (Lee) :: October 8, 7pm – 9pm

$10 each ages 5 and up at Coppal House Farm. There will be a bonfire and cider and donuts will be given out while supplies last.

Pet Day at Rundlet-May House (Portsmouth) :: October 8, 10am – 12pm

Join Historic New England and New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for Pet Adoption Day at Rundlet-May House in Portsmouth. The event is in celebration of James Rundlet May’s role in founding New Hampshire SPCA in 1872. Meet adoptible animals, do an animal scavenger hunt in the museum, watch a dog agility demonstration, and try your hand at pet-related arts and crafts projects outside. Newburyport’s Great Pumpkin & Lighting Stroll (Newburyport, MA) :: October 15, 5pm – 8pm

This annual family-friendly event will take place in Market Square. Families are encouraged and invited to bring their own jack-o-lantern. Don’t want to deal with the mess at home? Pumpkin carving takes place in Market Square from 3pm – 5pm. Bring your own pumpkin and create your masterpiece! Tools provided.

Antique Tractor Plow Day (Hampton Falls) :: October 16, 11am – 5pm

What better way to end a great season then to….PLOW! Applecrest Farm is pleased to welcome the East Coast Antique Tractor Club for the 10th Annual Applecrest Plow Day. An army of old-timer tractors will be helping us get ready for winter, ripping and roaring and turning earth all the farm over. So, gather your littles and come to the farm and marvel at how they used to do it.

Dover Day with Zebra Crossings (Dover) :: October 22, 9am – 3pm

Zebra Crossings Dover Day starts at the McConnell Center with fun challenges. Then walk to the NH Children’s Museum to learn about River Boating and then have some fun in Henry Law Park along with a peek at a Gundalow. Zebra Crossings is a non-profit organization that provides a diverse range of adventure programs throughout the year, including summer camps, for children  ages 6-15 years with a chronic health condition such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, JRA, and moderate to severe food allergies.

Seacoast Mom & Baby Expo (Eliot, ME) :: October 22, 10am – 6pm

This is event for women who are pregnant, planning to get pregnant and new moms and dads! Come meet more than 60 local companies who are devoted to new mom and baby wellness. Meet photographers, chiropractors, local toy and baby furniture stores, health care providers, midwives, doulas, lactation counselors and so many more! Lots to do, free samples, tons of give-a-ways and raffle prizes!

14th Annual Halloween Celebration (Kittery, ME) :: October 22, 12pm – 3pm

In collaboration with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard MWR and sponsored by JSN Associates & Kennebunk Savings, meet on Frisbee Common at the KCC for the 14th Annual Community Halloween Celebration! The event features free pumpkins, pumpkin painting/carving, hay rides, games, bounce houses, community groups, food and of course, a costume contest.

Carve or paint a pumpkin, play pumpkin games, and try baked pumpkin seeds at the New Hampshire Farm Museum.. Free pumpkin with each paid admission. Admission: $7 adult, $4 child ages 4-17/ Museum members free.

Prepare to be astounded as Applecrest Farm’s master carver gets after it with an 800 lb. giant jack-o-lantern. No one knows just what he’ll whittle that pumpkin into…come be surprised!

Halloween Party Spooktacular (Portsmouth) :: October 23, 2pm – 3pm

The Portsmouth Public Library and The Seacoast Storytellers present The Halloween Party Spooktacular. Please join this wonderful group of local storytellers as they weave their web of spooky tales. Some might ask you to participate in the storytelling. This program is for children ages three to eleven, but everyone is invited. Wear your favorite Halloween costume. Prizes awarded for the best.

RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns (Boston, MA) :: October 27 – 30, 6pm – 9:30pm

Don’t miss RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns as it makes its much-anticipated Boston debut after sold-out runs in New York and Los Angeles! See 5,000 hand-carved illuminated jack o’lanterns creatively arranged along a scenic walking path and set to a musical score. A unique, family-friendly experience, RISE will include characters from American pop culture, multi-pumpkin artistic structures including life-sized dinosaurs and dragons, and intricately carved 100-pound pumpkins. With multiple live carving stations, visitors can also watch talented RISE artists create the different displays seen in the show. The pumpkin trail at RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns is indoors, well-lit and well-staffed to ensure that the fun is always safe and enjoyable for visitors of all ages.  Advanced tickets REQUIRED.

Orchard Cross Bike Race (Hampton Falls) :: October 30, 7am

Applecrest is proud to once again host NorEast Cycling Championships for the 8th Annual Orchard Cross bike race. This unique 100 year-old cycling tradition is a real treat to watch. With plenty of sleek spandex, suped-up bikes and a 2-mile looped multi-terrain orchard course, this cyclo-cross event is one not to be missed. Also featuring a kid’s race, an all-ages costume rally and a pumpkin carving contest.

Storybrook Hayrides (Hampton Falls) :: October 22, 23, 29, 30, 11am – 4pm

Beloved fairy tale characters take to the orchards, performing sweet vignettes for children perched on a roving horse-drawn hay wagon. In eight lively scenes, kids partake in the classics, warning Little Red of the approaching wolf, watching Humpty Dumpty have his great fall, helping Dorothy and the Scarecrow along the yellow brick road and much, much more. A note to all kiddos: costumes, though not required, are always warmly welcome!
