Last week, I took my family to Dough Craft Pizza in Portsmouth. My family consists of me, my son (11) and my two daughters (16 and 23). Some of us are picky, some of us are growing, and all of us love pizza! With plenty of parking, a beautiful outdoor area with heaters, and comfortable seating inside, Dough made everyone in my family happy.
During CoVID-19, we felt safe at Dough Pizza Portsmouth
Upon entering, we immediately felt safe. Waitstaff was always masked up and, inside where we ate, the tables were spaced far apart. They have outdoor dining but it’s winding down due to the cooler weather. Plus, if you are uncomfortable, you can do takeout!
From a Traditional to an Adventurous Vibe
The industrial vibe at Dough Pizza Portsmouth style was on full display as we walked in. Glass bottles lined the hostess station and bar with LED lighting shining through. Pizza paddles adorned the ceiling and eclectic artwork filled the walls — from Picasso to a painting of Elvis hanging on the brick walls.
Not only was the decor fun and varied, the menu was, too!
The service was excellent and the waitstaff was very knowledgable about the menu. Throughout dinner, they kept our waters full and were very attentive. My daughters were impressed with the variety of salads offered, not common in a pizza place. Bruschetta and other appetizers are offered as well.
For pizza, the choices were also unique, in the best way. In addition to traditional pizza, they also offer cauliflower crust, vegan cheese, and meatless toppings. Their specialty pizzas combined familiar pizzas with surprising additions. Like pineapple and goat cheese on a BBQ chicken and red onion pizza. Or their pesto chicken pizza that included artichoke hearts and lemon. For the more traditional tastes, you can build your own pizza or order the John Dough, a cheese pizza that pleases the pickiest. Their dough is thin and crispy and my kids couldn’t tell which pizza had the cauliflower crust. They were all delicious. I especially loved that they had nitrate-free meats.
On the left: salad and garlic knots. On the right? 11 year old son eating the John Dough (obviously the plain cheese!).
I Can’t Wait to Go Back
We were too full from the pizza this time but I plan to go back soon to get dessert with an espresso with my family. They offer gelato and even Belgian waffles served with gelato and Nutella drizzle. I cannot wait! The price was very reasonable. We ordered the garlic knots appetizer, two salads, and four pizzas for under $100. Monday is buy one get one free pizza. They offer a full bar menu of cocktails, wine and beer as well.
Dough is a great place to bring your family with its classy flares such as cloth napkins, high ball water glasses and gourmet ingredients. Yet it also feels comfortable and casual so you can bring your kids. I highly recommend Dough Pizza Portsmouth for a great night out with the family.
