Celebrate Poetry Month this April 2022

April of 2022 is National Poetry Month and no one loves a good rhyme as much as a kid! I have created a list of my favorite poetry picture books for you and your family to celebrate poetry month this April!

The Classics

April 2022 poetry month Child’s Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson. I can still recite some of the poems from this classic. Timelessly relatable subjects like My Shadow, Bed In Summer are matched with Tasha Tudor’s gentle illustrations. I love giving this one as a baby gift too.

April 2022 poetry month

Poetry For Young People. This series of poetry books is a beautiful way to enjoy some of the classic works from Maya Angelou to Emily Dickinson as well as other wonderful poets.

For the Naturalist

April 2022 poetry monthAnimal Ark by Kwame Alexander and Joe Sartore. National Geographic photographer and Award Winning Poet teamed to create this stunning collection of poems about some of our world’s unique and endangered animals. Don’t miss this gem.

April 2022 poetry monthThis Poem Is A Nest by Irene Latham and Joanna Wright. I will confess, I love all things bird and nest related. This gorgeous book with it’s darling illustrations definitely speak to me. There is no better way to enhance your explorations of Spring and all of its wonder than This Poem Is A Nest.

Tickle the Funny Bone

April 2022 poetry monthI’ve Lost My Hippopotamus by Jack Prelutsky. My child cannot read Jack Prelutsky without laughing. If you loved Shel Silverstein’s silly poems as a kid, chances are good you will love Jack Prelutsky as well. You will not be disappointed!

Revolting Rhymes by Roald Dahl

I debated about put this in the “classics” category. However, older kids, particularly will delight in these irreverent and quirky poets by children’s book legend, Roald Dahl.
