Father’s Day Weekend with the Caterpillar Lab at Bedrock Gardens!

June 15 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until June 16, 2024

| $15

The Caterpillar Lab will return to Bedrock Gardens for Father’s Day weekend on Saturday, June 15, and Sunday, June 16, 10AM – 4PM. Kids, teens, and adults will all enjoy learning about these fascinating and beautiful insects: what they eat, how they metamorphosize, and how they survive out in the wild. See living caterpillars of all shapes and sizes in close detail under a microscope, find out which ones might live in your own backyard, and go on a caterpillar hunt through Bedrock Gardens.

About the Caterpillar Lab

Founded by Samuel Jaffe in 2015, the Caterpillar Lab fosters greater appreciation and care for the complexity and beauty of our local natural history through live caterpillar educational programs, citizen science research initiatives, and photography and film projects. They believe that an increased awareness of one’s local environment is the foundation on which healthy and responsible attitudes towards the broader natural systems of this world is built. You can learn more about them at www.thecaterpillarlab.org.

Tickets to the Caterpillar Lab

This event is free with a $15 General Admission Ticket. Children ages 12 and under get into Bedrock Gardens and the Caterpillar Lab for free. Thanks to our business partners the Northeast Credit Union Foundation and the Lee Aubuchon Hardware Store. No pre-registration is required.

Planning a Family Outing or a Day in the Gardens?
The La Casita Food Truck will be at Bedrock Gardens both days, 11AM-3PM. They will be selling their delicious sandwiches, rice and bean bowls, and more.

Join a Caterpillar Hunt through the Gardens
Arrive later in the day and join Caterpillar Lab Director Sam Jaffe on a walk-through Bedrock Gardens looking for native caterpillars and other insects. These special walks will be held from 2-3PM on both days, June 15 and 16. The walk is appropriate for naturalists, gardeners and explorers both young and old. Best for children ages 11 and up. The walk is free with admission and is limited to 20 participants.

Looking for a Father’s Day Gift?
Shop our wide selection of organically grown and native plants. Start a pollinator garden to support your new-found caterpillar friends, grab some herbs for a summer barbeque, and bring some garden-dug plants. Enjoy a tasting of Bedrock-made honeys that will also be available for purchase or go online to purchase dad a family membership.

Visit Our Family Fun Table
Visit our table for some interactive nature activities and to get a schedule of our summer kids programming. We’ll also have free handouts for fun outdoor apps and activities you can use with your kids this summer.
